A Community Coming Together to Support Local Students

As the school year begins, there is something powerful about knowing that a child is walking into the classroom feeling prepared, supported and confident. That sense of readiness is about more than backpacks and supplies. It is about community.

Recently, Amanda Tagliarino, Senior Director of the Fieldstone Foundation, joined Casella Sales Representative Katelyn LaPlante to deliver donated backpacks filled with school supplies to Chateaugay Superintendent Loretta Fowler and Elementary School Principal Nicole Calnon. These backpacks were more than just school essentials. They were a tangible reminder to students and families that their community is standing beside them.

“Starting the school year prepared can make such a difference for a child,” said Amanda Tagliarino. “When children know they have what they need, it builds confidence and sets the tone for learning, growth and belonging. That kind of support stays with them well beyond the first day of school.”

This effort was sparked by the generosity of the Martin Family and strengthened by committed community partners including Casella, Pediatric Dentistry of Malone and McDonald’s of Malone. Together, the Fieldstone Foundation was able to support more than 100 students across Franklin and Essex counties as they began the school year ready to learn.

The Fieldstone Foundation delivered over 100 backpacks to area schools for children in need of new backpacks, school supplies and headphones for use with their electronic learning devices. Pediatric Dentistry of Malone added dental hygiene kits to help promote healthy habits, and McDonald’s of Malone donated gift cards for a free Happy Meal or Combination Meal, bringing a little extra joy to each child.

These moments remind us that meaningful impact happens when individuals, families and local businesses come together with a shared purpose. Every backpack filled, every partnership formed and every child supported reflects the heart of this community.

We are deeply grateful to the families and partners who made this possible and to the school leaders who welcomed us so warmly. It is an honor to work alongside so many who care deeply about the well-being of local children and families. Because of this collective generosity, students across our region are starting the school year supported, prepared and confident.
